Garden History and Information

Logan House Gardens, created by the McDouall family from around 1869, boast a rich history and remarkable horticultural heritage. Thanks to a fortunate climate—cool in summer and mild in winter—the gardens thrive in loamy peat and sand, with the warming influence of the Gulf Stream ensuring a temperate environment year-round. Surrounded by sea on three sides and situated approximately 100 feet above sea level, Logan House Gardens provides ideal conditions for a wide variety of plants, trees, and shrubs. Over the years, the McDouall’s brought specimens from across the globe, carefully planting them to create the peaceful haven we enjoy today.

We invite you to explore and relax in our tranquil gardens, open from April to October, 10:00 to 16:00. Dogs are welcome to join you as you discover the beauty and serenity of Logan.

Guests staying at our holiday cottage are welcome to visit Logan House Gardens free of charge. For other visitors, there is a small charge via the honesty box located at the garden entrance in the car park.

The walks throughout the gardens are gently undulating, so we recommend wearing sturdy footwear and taking care while exploring. You will also find some benches placed around the garden, offering peaceful spots to sit and soak in the beautiful surroundings.

Tips for Visitors:

Logan House Gardens primarily consists of un-surfaced paths. In damp conditions and after wet weather, these may become slippery. We recommend that visitors wear stout shoes or boots and take care on un-surfaced areas. Please stick to the paths and take care when visiting the garden

 

Please ensure all dogs are kept on a lead, and we would politely ask you to clean up after your pets.
